Springfield Republican: US Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey push for funding to address opioid crisis, ensure medical research
Pointing to the dozens of Americans who die each day from an opioid overdose, senators from across New England and other states called on congressional leaders Wednesday to put aside funding for efforts to combat the drug epidemic and investments in medical research.
U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, D-Massachusetts, in a letter to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan, contended that a substantial increase in resources is needed to fight widespread opioid abuse and addiction, particularly when it comes to funding prevention, treatment and recovery activities.
