Springfield Republican: Central Mass. rail line gets $2.4 million in federal funding to reduce risk of derailments
Nearly $2.4 million in federal funding has been secured for the Providence and Worcester Railroad Company's Gardner Branch rail line that will be used to reduce the risk of derailments that could impact the drinking water supplied to Worcester, officials said.
The $2,376,682 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will rehabilitate 12 miles of track along the Gardner branch. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey and Reps. Jim McGovern and Niki Tsongas announced the funding in a statement on Tuesday.
