Warren Statement on Supreme Court Oral Arguments in Purdue Pharma Bankruptcy Case
Washington, D.C. – United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) issued the following statement following oral arguments before the Supreme Court in Harrington v. Purdue Pharma L.P.:
“This case is simple: the Sackler family made billions by capitalizing on people’s pain through Purdue Pharma and OxyContin. Now, they’re trying to use a bankruptcy loophole to escape accountability, and block victims from pursuing justice.
“For years, the rich and powerful have made record profits at the expense of millions of Americans who have lost family members and loved ones to drug overdoses due to opioids. This must end. Getting the Supreme Court to take up this case was an important win for the Biden administration’s bankruptcy watchdog, and now, the Supreme Court must follow the law and stop this bankruptcy system abuse.”
