Warren Statement on Final SEC Climate Risk Disclosure Rule

Washington D.C. – United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), a member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) finalized its climate risk disclosure rule:

“Climate change is transforming our world and our economy, so it’s plain common sense that investors should have access to standardized information about companies’ climate risks and emissions. The SEC’s final climate risk disclosure rule is the bare minimum. I am deeply disappointed by Chair Gensler’s decision to significantly weaken the rule in response to an onslaught of corporate lobbying. The SEC must now do everything in its power to ensure the rule’s robust implementation so that the rule can make a meaningful difference for investors.”
