Warren Applauds Updated Merger Guidelines
Washington D.C. – United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) updated their merger guidelines:
“After more than 40 years of lax antitrust enforcement, Assistant Attorney General Kanter and Chair Khan are stepping up to promote competitive markets, which is foundational for a vibrant economy and a healthy democracy. These merger guidelines are rooted in the laws passed by Congress, aligned with court precedent, and provide a much-needed update to counter the real harms posed by corporate monopolies. Giant corporations and their armies of lobbyists will cry foul at the prospect of more competition, but this action by the Biden administration is welcome news for American small businesses, workers, and consumers.”
