Senators Warren, Crapo, Wyden Urge DOE to Study Cost Savings of Energy Efficiency Technology
Senators Press Agency to Conduct Study While Warren-Crapo Legislation Awaits Further Senate Action
WASHINGTON, DC – United States Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources, today sent a bipartisan letter to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) urging the agency to study the cost-savings of energy efficiency technologies in an effort to increase public and private use of these technologies. Senators Warren and Crapo previously introduced an amendment calling for the DOE to conduct this study during the Senate’s consideration of S. 1392, the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act.
“Growing numbers of manufacturers and building owners realize that when they invest in operational energy efficiency tools, they can do something good not only for the environment but also for the bottom line,” the senators wrote in the letter. “Operational energy efficiency tools help protect the environment, save companies’ and taxpayer money and create new jobs.”
The senators urged the DOE to begin this study while S. 1392 awaits further action in the Senate.
The senators noted that a DOE study could “significantly advance the adoption of operational energy efficiency tools, and give industry the analysis it needs to embrace these technologies and services that reduce energy costs and benefit the environment.”
