Senators Warren and Markey Reconvene Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Judicial Nominations to Consider Upcoming Vacancy

Washington, D.C. — Following Judge Timothy Hillman’s announcement of his intention to retire from regular active service as a United States District Court Judge, United States Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) today announced they will reconvene an advisory committee to review and provide recommendations on federal District Court candidates to be considered for this federal judicial vacancy. Applications will be accepted from a wide pool of candidates throughout the Commonwealth. 

Candidates interested in applying for a U.S. District Court nomination must submit their applications to the Advisory Committee by March 31, 2022.

The Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Judicial Nominations will solicit applications for the federal District Court vacancy, interview candidates, and make recommendations to the Senators. The Advisory Committee comprises distinguished members of the Massachusetts legal community, including prominent academics and litigators, and is chaired by former U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Gertner. This next search process will include the following existing Advisory Committee members: Willard Ogburn, Angela Onwuachi-Willig, Pamela Berman, Jack Corrigan and Dehlia Umunna. Leonardo Angiulo, Gina Plata Nino and Lyonel Jean-Pierre will also serve on the Advisory Committee.

"The Advisory Committee plays a critical role in ensuring that highly qualified, fair-minded judges are appointed to federal courts throughout the Commonwealth," said Senators Warren and Markey. "We look forward to receiving the Committee's recommendations."
