Senator Warren Applauds $1.5 Million DOL Apprenticeship Grant to the Massachusetts Department of Career Services

Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) applauded the Department of Labor's (DOL) newly-announced grants to increase access to apprenticeships, including a $1.5 million grant to the Massachusetts Department of Career Services. The grant will be used to "expand Registered Apprenticeship opportunities for women, communities of color, and low income individuals in the state...by 25 percent over the next 42 months, including adding over 2,000 new apprentices."

"Apprenticeship programs can make all the difference for Massachusetts workers trying to build a future for their families," Senator Warren said. "This federal funding will help the Massachusetts Department of Career Services reach more people who can benefit from job training. Apprenticeships open doors for workers who are eager to launch careers in growing fields in the Commonwealth, and it's critical that the spending bill for the upcoming fiscal year continues to support these opportunities for those who need them the most."

Funds from the grant will be used to conduct outreach by connecting a "network of regional coordinators with existing apprenticeship staff and the Business Service Representatives in all 32 Massachusetts One-Stop Career Centers to market Registered Apprenticeships to employers. Funds will also assist with coordination and standardization of on-the-job training guidelines and the provision of related instruction for employer partners...Targeted industries include Education, Culinary, Healthcare, Human Services, and Manufacturing."
