Massachusetts Congressional Delegation Joint Statement on Stop & Shop's Decision to Terminate Hazard Pay for Frontline Workers as COVID-19 Rates Continue to Rise
Washington, D.C. - United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and the entire Massachusetts congressional delegation, including Senator Edward J. Markey (D-MA) and Representatives Richard E. Neal (D-MA-01), James P. McGovern (D-MA-02), Stephen F. Lynch (D-MA-08), William Keating (D-MA-09), Joseph P. Kennedy III (D-MA-04), Katherine Clark (D-MA-05), Seth Moulton (D-MA-06), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA-07) and Lori Trahan (D-MA-03) released the response from Stop & Shop following a letter sent by the lawmakers earlier this month urging Stop & Shop to reinstate hazard pay for frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Grocery store workers are facing serious health risks in order to keep their communities fed. We are disappointed Stop & Shop has decided it no longer wants to acknowledge and compensate the extra risk faced by workers who are essential to their business," the lawmakers said. "Congress must act immediately to make sure the next stimulus package includes an Essential Workers Bill of Rights that includes robust premium pay for all essential workers."
