Washington Post: The ‘big, beautiful bill’
Democrats say they're starting to find their footing to push back against Trump's massive tax, immigration and defense bill. And their line of attack is simple: This bill won’t lower prices.
"You promised the American people that you would immediately lower costs, 'starting on Day One.’ However, weeks into your presidency, congressional Republicans are moving forward with legislative plans to increase the cost of living for hardworking Americans," 32 Senate Democrats wrote Tuesday morning in a letter to Trump.
Sens. Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts), Jeff Merkley (Oregon), Ron Wyden (Oregon) and Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota) led the missive, which was obtained first by The Washington Post.
It follows Rep. Brendan Boyle (Pennsylvania) and House Budget Committee Democrats’ 12-hour amendment-a-thon last week as House Republicans voted to advance their budget resolution to the floor. Boyle at the end of the session said the GOP was "betraying the middle class of this country and those who aspire to be in it."
